Most of the women who find their way to me say some version of the same sentence, usually in the first few minutes of our first conversation: “I just don’t feel like myself anymore.”

If that feels like you, you’re in the right place. I’m Rachel, a yoga teacher and midlife transition coach in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, and I work with capable, accomplished women who are standing in the space between who they were, who they are now, and who they’re becoming. Some of the changes that brought them there were ones they chose. Some were handed to them. Either way, it’s completely normal to feel anxious and unmoored, and to be a lot harder on yourself than you would ever be on a friend.
Midlife coaching gives you someone who has been through it walking beside you while you find your footing. Here are some of the things that bring women to me.
1. You’re going through a divorce or the end of a long relationship
Maybe you look in the mirror and don’t recognize the woman looking back. Maybe you were married for twenty-two years, or together since your twenties, and now you’re standing in the pasta sauce aisle with no idea which jar you like, because for two decades you bought the one he liked. Somewhere along the way the role of wife, or partner, or half of a “we” became who you were, and now you don’t know who you are without them. Whether you were the one who left or the one who was left, the ground feels unsteady, and that makes complete sense.
I help women who don’t know who they are after a relationship ends find their footing and build a life that feels like theirs.
2. You’ve outgrown a role, like an empty nest, retirement, or a career shift
Maybe you’ve been pouring everything you have into your kids, or your career, for as long as you can remember, and now that you finally have time for yourself, you can’t remember what you like to do just for you. Maybe your youngest just left for college and you keep walking past the closed bedroom door. Maybe retirement day came and went with a sheet cake in the break room, and then Monday morning arrived with an empty calendar and a feeling you can’t quite name. Or maybe you’re switching careers and can’t tell yet whether you’re being brave or running away.
I help women who have given everything to a role rediscover what they love, so the life after it feels like their own.
3. You’re having a hard time shifting into success
Maybe you finally made partner, or your business hit the number you set for yourself five years ago, and you’re sitting at the celebration dinner smiling and nodding while a little voice asks, “Is this it?” It’s something people don’t think about a lot, but success asks your nervous system to expand so you can feel comfortable receiving more, and to believe that you’re worthy of it.
I help women expand their capacity to receive, so the success they’ve built feels as good as they hoped it would.
4. You’ve outgrown a dream you worked hard for
Maybe you spent years becoming the nurse, the attorney, the business owner you always said you’d be, and at 3 a.m. you can finally admit you’re not sure you want it anymore. You haven’t told anyone, because how do you explain that you climbed the ladder and now you’re wondering whether it was the right one? Your dreams have shifted, and you’ve got to transition into something new, which can feel like grief even though nothing has technically been taken from you.
I help women let go of a dream that no longer fits and choose what comes next on purpose, so they’re building a life they actually want.
5. A new decade is coming and you’ve started taking inventory
Maybe your birthday is a few months away and turning 40 or 50 has you doing math you didn’t ask to do: how many good years are left, what have I put off, and what do I even want? A new decade tends to shine a light on everything you’ve been putting off, and it often means a part of you is ready for what’s next before you know what that is.
I help women who are taking inventory get clear on what they want the next chapter to hold and take the first step toward it.
6. You’re at a crossroads and you’ve asked everyone you know
Maybe you’ve made the pros and cons list, called your sister, asked your best friend and two people from work, listened to a podcast or three, and asked ChatGPT for good measure, and you still don’t have your answer. You’ve analyzed it to death, and somewhere in there you may be thinking you should be able to figure this out on your own. I totally get it, because I have spent much longer than I needed to trying to sort things out by myself, and more information rarely moves the needle at a crossroads.
I help women at a crossroads stop analyzing and walk away with their next aligned step forward.
7. You’re grieving someone you can’t imagine life without
Grief guts you. You can’t breathe, and life around you goes on like nothing happened while you’re reeling. Maybe you can’t fathom a life without this person, and a song comes on in the grocery store or on the radio and you’re crying in the middle of the cereal aisle before you know it. When people ask how you’re doing, you say you’re fine.
You’re not fine, and it’s okay that you’re not fine.
I help women in grief put one foot in front of the other, so they can find their way back into the land of the living.
Questions about midlife transition coaching
What does a midlife transition coach do?
A midlife transition coach walks beside you through a big change, like a loss, a divorce, an empty nest, or a career change, while you sort out who you’re becoming and what comes next.
Is midlife coaching only for women over 40?
Many of the women I work with are over 40, and midlife coaching fits that season well, but what matters most is what’s changing in your life. A loss, a divorce, a job you’ve outgrown, or a new baby can leave a woman wondering who she is now at any age.
How is a coach different from a therapist?
Therapy often works with your past and what hurts, and coaching focuses on where you are now and where you’re headed next. Many women find both helpful, and if your grief or anxiety feels like more than you can carry, please reach out to a licensed therapist or your doctor, and I’d be glad to support you alongside them.
Do I have to commit to months of coaching to start?
You can start with one conversation. I offer a single 90-minute session for women who’d like to see what this feels like before deciding on anything bigger.
If you recognized yourself
I’ve stood at a few of these crossroads myself, after a relationship ended, after my mom died in 2021 when some days my practice was literally sitting on my mat to cry, and after I left my corporate career. I’ve learned that we all land at these moments more than once, and that part of the work is knowing how to come home to yourself the next time life shifts.
I don’t think you’ll go back to feeling like your old self, because you’ve outgrown her, and I’d love to help you feel at home in the woman you’re becoming. That is the heart of my work as a midlife transition coach, and it’s exactly why I created the Identity Reset.
Start with the Identity Reset
The Identity Reset is a 90-minute Zoom deep dive for women who feel unmoored in a big life change, and you leave with your next aligned step. I take you through it step by step, so you don’t have to figure out your whole life at once. First, we find where your energy is stuck. Then we use somatic practices to help you let go of the roles you’ve outgrown. Then we decide on your next aligned step.
Afterward you get 7 days of voice and text support from me on Telegram, Monday through Friday, so you have someone to reach for when the uncertainty spikes. It’s $297, and if you decide you want deeper support, you can apply it toward a longer coaching package.
